BATON ROUGE — Jumanji Washington hit 1 of 2 free throws with 5.9 left in the game to help Centerville improve to 11-11 on the season with a thrilling 51-50 victory at Hosanna Christian Friday night in the district opener for both teams.

Centerville will host Holden tonight starting at 5:30 (2 games).

Hosanna is now 13-14 on the season and will host Lafayette Christian on Tuesday.

Hosanna Christian strolled outfront by a 15-8 first quarter lead before the Bulldogs went on an 18-17 run in the second quarter, cutting Hosanna Christian’s lead to 33-25. Centerville used a 12-8 third quarter flurry to trail Hosanna Christian by a 41-37 margin. Centerville scored its come-from-behind victory over Hosanna Christian a 14-9 fourth quarter run including Washington’s game-winning free throw with 5.9 seconds left in the see-saw battle.

Centerville’s Rodrick Taylor led the Bulldogs in scoring with a game-high 27 points on six deuces, three treys and 6 of 6 free throws. Other top scorers for Centerville were: Quinton Nettles, 9; Zacchaeus Jackson, 8; Jumanji Washington, 5 and Laroy Gant, 2.

Elton Plain led Hosanna Christian with 15 points while 15 points and Dedrick Jones finished with 12 points.
