The St. Mary Sheriff’s Office was called this morning at 7:59 a.m. to the Trunkline Gas Plant, 3635 Hwy 90 in Calumet, in reference to a shutdown of the pipeline. Several vehicles and the roadway were reported covered with a residue, Sheriff Mark Hebert said. State Police Troop I spokesman Stephen Hammons said too much pressure in a pipeline caused a release of paraffin in the area. A car accident was also reported in the area, and Hammons said the paraffin could have been a contributing factor. Hebert said the state Department of Transportation and Development also has been contacted and is assessing the area for any lingering safety concerns. Hebert advised that all vehicles take precautions traveling in this area due to a possibility of residue on the roadway.
