West St. Mary earned the District 6-2A title by sweeping all opponents, polishing off the championship run with Friday’s 40-26 triumph over the Catholic High Lady Panthers.
Just as the Lady Wolfpack posted a flawless 8-0 league record in Friday’s opener, the West St. Mary Wolfpack nipped the Catholic High of New Iberia Panthers in the nightcap to notch a spotless 8-0 won-loss league record.
West St. Mary jumped out front by an 11-10 lead before Catholic High rallied for a 16-15 halftime cushion. The West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack asserted themselves going on a 15-2 run for a 30-18 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Down the stretch, West St. Mary went on a 10-8 run en route to the lop-sided 40-26 victory to move to an impeccable 8-0 in District 6-2A.
Kiristen Thomas led the Lady Wolfpack in scoring with 13 points on one trey, four deuces and 2 of 4 free throws. Amber Joe pumped in 12 points, knocked down three field goals while hitting on 6 of 6 free throws. Other top scorers for West St. Mary were: Gentrell Wells, 5; Sequoya Ferguson, 4; Alexis Cross, 3 and Myla Dapremont, 3.
West St. Mary will enter the state class 2A playoffs early next week.
