VILLE PLATTE – A new investigative program helped Evangeline Sheriff's deputies shut down an alleged meth lab.

Investigators followed up on leads developed from a new investigative program utilized within the Criminal Investigations Division on a raid at 205 Stephanie Street which led to the discovery of an operating clandestine lab, also known as a meth lab on Sept. 9.

While making contact with the occupants of the residence, investigators said they immediately noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the house and observed a thick white smoke which engulfed the inside.

Due to the nature and danger associated with meth labs, investigators immediately obtained consent to search the residence from the occupants, Robert W. Baquet and Mandy L. Ryan, where the precursors and chemicals were located along with the operational meth lab. Investigators rendered the lab in a safe condition and arrested the occupants for the operation of a clandestine lab.

Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and substance analysis from Acadiana Crime Lab.
