William Harvey “Bill” Mier, a former resident of Morgan City, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at his home in Huffman, Texas, after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born in Brunswick, Ga., to Joseph and Evelyn Mier.
After attending Morgan City High School, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany as a paratrooper with the 101st “Screaming Eagles” Airborne Division. At the time of his death, he was president of B&C Services Inc. in Huffman, Texas.
In addition to his wife Carina, Bill is survived by his two daughters, Rachel and husband Michael Berry of Lafayette and Billie Jo “B.J.” and her husband Rodney Babin of Houma; nine grandchildren, Cory, Clay, Courtney, Carter, Catherine, Cole, and Joshua Caleb Berry and Charlie Elizabeth and Savannah Price; and three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Pavali and Leilana.
Bill is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Louise Mier of Tomball, Texas, and Mike and Honorine Mier of Broussard; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Gene Bosworth of Morgan City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Evelyn Bethune Mier; his daughter, Angie Mier; and a granddaughter, Nicole Price.
A memorial service conducted by Rev. Alan Noland was held Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Huffman Church in Huffman, Texas.
Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Ross Trahan at Morgan City Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, with the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad presiding over military honors.
