The American bald eagle is a common visitor in St. Mary Parish and is celebrated annually during the Eagle Expo with a series of guided tours into the Atchafalaya Basin and a series of lectures on a variety of topics ranging from bird identification and wildlife photography to conservation and Cajun heritage. Here, a photo taken Saturday on the Bayou Black tour with Cajun Man Black Guidry depict a mother eagle bringing material back to her nest which already contained a hatchling. Another nest nearby had a mother sitting on eggs not yet hatched.
