A woman was arrested for child desertion after her own mother told police she would no longer watch her grandchildren constantly.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said Rebecca Luke, 24, of Ninth Street in Patterson would leave her children, ages 6 and 8, with her mother while she would work at an area bar daily and then go out nightly. The mother also claimed that Luke had a prescription pill problem, the chief said.

Luke was charged at 12:04 a.m. Saturday with two counts of child desertion and possession of a Schedule V controlled dangerous substance after unidentified narcotic pills were found in her purse.

She remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

Elsewhere, Albert Hamilton, 51, of Arlington Street in Bayou Vista was arrested Friday at 8:50 p.m. for possession of crack cocaine, obstruction of justice, littering and violation of controlled dangerous substance law in a drug free zone.

Sheriff Mark Hebert said agents were patrolling Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista when they conducted an investigative stop on a suspect riding a bike. They observed him drop crack cocaine on the ground, Hebert said.

Hamilton remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

Catherine W. Saucier, 62, of Flattown Road in Charenton was arrested Friday at 1:36 p.m. for theft by shoplifting.

A deputy was called to the Bayou Vista Wal-Mart after store security observed Saucier taking several clothing and household items valued at $215.30, Hebert said.

Saucier was issued a summons to appear in court.

William Closson, 27, of Verdunville was arrested Saturday at 3:29 a.m. for domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace intoxicated, resisting an officer with force, resisting an officer, and battery on a police officer.

A deputy was called to the above location in reference to a disturbance where the suspect and complainant were arguing. The deputy separated the subjects and was attempting to speak with the complainant when Closson refused to stay inside the residence and was causing a disturbance. The deputy attempted to detain Closson while he conducted the investigation at which time he committed a battery on the officer and began resisting and fighting the officer. The suspect was finally taken into custody and placed into the patrol vehicle, while the deputy spoke with complainant. During the investigation it was learned that the complainant and the suspect were arguing when the suspect committed a battery upon her, Hebert said.

After the investigation Closson was booked into the parish jail with no bond at this time.

In Morgan City, Jeremy Faggard, 30, of Westwego was arrested Sunday at 3:33 a.m., charged with possession of Schedule I CDS (synthetic marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, no turn signal, driving under suspension, and possession of crack cocaine.

MCPD Chief Marc Folse said the officer on patrol in the area of Eleventh Street and La. 182 observed a vehicle making a right turn from 11th Street during which the driver failed to use a turn signal. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license. As the officer was speaking to Faggard, he noticed that his speech was slurred as he was attempting to swallow a piece of suspected crack cocaine.

During search of his person and his vehicle, officers located synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Folse said. He was booked and incarcerated where he remained this morning with no bond set.

Keddrick Jones, 25 of Morgan City was arrested Saturday at 3:47 a.m., by MCPD on a PPD warrant for possession of stolen property. No further details were available this morning.
