Windows 7 has a built-in tool that will analyze your laptop’s energy use and make recommendations on how to improve it. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Open up a command shell as an administrator. Type cmd in the search box, and when the cmd icon appears, right-click it and choose “Run as administrator.”
2. Inside the command shell, type in the following:
powercfg -energy -output C:\Reports\Energy_Report.html
Be sure to create the reports folder beneath the C drive before running the command.
3. Windows will take a few minutes to analyze your machine, then crete the report in HTML format beneath the reports folder. Double click on the reports file and follow the recommendations to imporve the battery efficiency of your laptop.
