The diesel generators on Front Street in Morgan City are used during a power outage to supply up to 4 megawatts of power to the Joseph J. Cefalu Sr. Municipal Steam Plant so that Units 3 and 4 can be turned on. Those units are then fueled by natural gas. The two units take eight hours to fully power from a cold start. In the event of a loss of power from the Cleco tie through the transformer, both units usually are needed to keep Morgan City’s power online.

This year’s poster for the Bayou Teche Black Bear Festival was created by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Art Department. Bear Festival co-organizer Catherine Siracusa contacted the department head and printmaking professor Brian Kelley, who allowed her to make a presentation to students. The students then created woodcuts of their concepts for a poster, and this one was chosen. All the woodcuts by participating students were available as a collection for silent auction at last night’s Chamber of Commerce Business After hours held at Argus Spa to kick off the festival, pictured below. Dr. Donna Tesi won the auction to own the woodcuts.
