Berwick High School Blood Drive 10/04/2012
Berwick High School held a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the front lobby with the portable blood unit parked under the school's front canopy. The blood drive was sponsored by the high school’s Health Occupations Students of America club and Allied Health Services/United Blood Services. Although the UBS Unit of Lafayette distributes blood to wherever it is needed in the United States, the blood drive also was to benefit two community members, Louis Tamporello and Stella Saleme, who are in need of blood due to illness. UBS serves hospitals and communities across the country while urging citizens’ to give blood three times a year to benefit multiple lives. Allied Health 1's and first responder students are with their instructor and contributing coordinator, Tessy Michel, RN, at the far top right. A total of more than 100 students combined with community members had signed up and given blood Thursday afternoon.

Band members of The Sound of Pride of Berwick High School began the first of two grueling weeks of band camp Monday morning. Students put in a full 8-hour day Monday through Friday, with both outdoor practice as well as classroom time. BHS band director Walter Shepherd uses this time to introduce the music and marching formation/routine that the SOP will perform in marching festivals. Shepherd said the band has grown from about 60 students last year to more than 80. The show theme for the season is Americana, with songs like “Georgia on My Mind” and New Orleans jazz selections included.
