The Central Catholic Eagles finished their season as Class 1A state runner-up after falling 4-2 to Mangham High School in Saturday’s Class 1A state title game. The runner-up finish is the Eagles’ second in as many years. The Eagles advanced to the Class 1A finals after knocking off top-ranked Ouachita Christian, 8-7. Central Catholic finished its season with a 24-8 record, which included a 14-game winning streak that was snapped with Saturday’s loss.

Patterson High School baseball standout Dallas Hamlett signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the Belhaven University Blazers in Mississippi. A signing ceremony was held Thursday in Patterson. Hamlett will begin his time at Belhaven in the fall and plans to play first base. He also intends to major in sports administration. During his senior season, Hamlett led the ’Jacks with a .412 batting average and a .639 slugging percentage, while he recorded a .458 on base percentage. He was tops on the team in runs scored (30), hits (40), doubles (14) and RBIs (26), while he tied for the team lead in home runs (two) and was second on the team in stolen bases (10). In the field, he had a .963 fielding percentage. On hand to celebrate the occasion Thursday were school faculty as well as Hamlett’s family.
