The Morgan City Police Department responded to 1,669 complaints in May, according to MCPD officials.

Included in the complaints was the investigation of 44 traffic accidents.

The accidents involved three cases of driving while intoxicated and resulted in nine injuries.

Other charges levied during the month include:

Aggravated battery, 1; burglary, 1; contempt of court, 1; criminal damage to property, 1; disturbing the peace, 16; driving while intoxicated, 3; failure to appear (bench warrant), 8; failure to return lease merchandise, 1; hit and run, 2; holds for other departments, 12; littering, 2; narcotics law violation, 23; open container, 5; parole/probation violation, 7; possession of stolen property, 3; remaining where forbidden, 2; resisting an officer, 4; second-degree battery, 1; simple battery, 2; simple battery on an officer, 2; simple battery domestic, 2; theft misdemeanor, 2; theft by shoplifting, 1; urinating in public, 1; violation of traffic laws, 39; possession of synthetic marijuana, 2; altering a prescription, 1; and school zone drug violation, 1.
