A broadwinged hawk perches on a live oak limb near Bayou Teche in Charenton this weekend. The broadwing is a small hawk, about the size of a large crow, and makes its home in the eastern United States, migrating to Central and South America for the winter. A resurgence of hawks and other raptors over recent years has been rapid, and attributed to protective measures, habitat restoration and removal of environmental stresses.
