Reconstruction of La. 87 is currently active at Willow Street, from the intersection of the state road down to the end of the pavement at Sterling bridge road. The project along a 5-mile stretch to the Centerville bridge consists of removal of the existing pavement and construction of a new sub-base and base with repavement. W.E. McDonald and Son, LLC of Glenmora was awarded the almost $3.5 million contract. The project is expected to be complete by the time the sugar cane grinding season begins in early October, according to Project Engineer Chris Lissard of the state Department of Transportation and Development. While at least one lane of the road will remain open for through traffic, motorists are advised there may be delays.
