Central Catholic takes third at 7-on-7s tourney

Central Catholic hosted a 10-team 7-on-7 football tournament on Saturday with Loreauville coming out on top 24-9 over South Lafourche in the championship game.

The Eagles finished third after a 17-14 loss to Loreauville in the semifinals. Franklin finished in seventh place and Patterson played just one game, winning 31-9 over Loreauville, but opted to withdraw from the tournament due to weather.

Central Catholic tied for the lead in Pool A with a 3-1 record with Loreauville.

The Eagles beat Ellender 29-8 to start the tournament, then went on to beat South Lafourche 16-14 in the second game.

The third game in Pool A play was against parish rival Franklin and the Eagles won 19-12 before picking up their only loss in group play, 14-13, against Catholic Pointe Coupee.

Franklin finished group play 2-2 with wins over Ellender, 21-6, and Catholic P.C. 24-5.

The Hornets two losses came against South Lafourche, 22-11, and Central Catholic.

In bracket play, Franklin lost its first game to East Ascension 15-9 but bounced back to beat Catholic P.C. 17-8 before being eliminated with a second loss in bracket play to North Central.

Central Catholic won its first two bracket games, 18-9 over North Central and 18-16 over East Ascension, before losing to the two teams in the championship game, Loreauville (17-14) and South Lafourche (16-14).
