Teen passenger killed when driver loses control and truck hits tree

MARKSVILLE – A teenagert was killed early Thursday when the truck he was riding in left the roadway and hit a tree.

State Police saidt he accident happend about 3:30 a.m. on La. 451 near Bordelonville.

A 2007 Nissan pickup, driven by Ryan D. Fontenot, 19, of Moreauville was north bound when Fontenot lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.

After exiting the right side of the roadway, the vehicle re-entered the roadway before exiting the left side of the roadway and collided with a tree.

Fontenot is suspected of being impaired while driving. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt. He received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center for treatment.

His passenger, Dakota J. Martin, 19, alos of Moreauville, was killed. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt.

Both boys were 2010 graduates of Avoyelles High School.
