An elderly Morgan City man was arrested for the attempted aggravated rape of a 60-year-old woman with Down Syndrome.

Relatives of the woman, who has to have constant care due to her condition, walked in on John Pittman Sr. and the woman. He was partially clothed and in an inappropriate position, according to Morgan City Police Chief Marc Folse.

Pittman, 69, of Morgan City, was charged Thursday at 2:50 p.m. after investigation of the July 27 incident which allegedly occurred at his Bernice Street residence.

Investigators interviewed all parties involved before filing an arrest warrant, Folse noted.

Pittman remained incarcerated this morning in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

In other action, Charles Brown Jr., 28, of Morgan City was arrested on Thursday at 2 p.m., on charges of theft by shoplifting, resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers were called to Rouse’s to investigate a shoplifting incident. Store personnel reported that Brown was observed placing two packs of steaks, valued at $50.15, under his shirt, Folse said.

While en route, they were advised that the subject had exited the store and ran across La. 182 toward Duke Street. Officers located a subject fitting the description and attempted to stop him, but he continued to run, according to Folse.

Brown was caught and, during the arrest, attempted to flee from officers. He remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

In Patterson, Joseph Eusey, 33, of Tiffany Drive was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Thursday for simple robbery and simple battery after he attempted to take a prescription pill out of the victim’s pocket, Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said.

Eusey remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

In other news, charges were dropped against Jessica Duhon, 29, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, according to the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

She was arrested Monday in Morgan City for possessing Xanax without a prescription.
