Bayou Vista Garden Club members attended the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Summer Board meeting held July 18-19 in Baton Rouge.

LGCF President Mary Jacobs presided over the meeting. Theme of the meeting was “Places, Projects, Products, & People.”

Deep South Region Director Sara Lanier was guest speaker. Lanier elaborated on the social, spiritual, political, scientific, and educational aspects of garden club membership.

Theme for the Deep South Region this term is “Membership Offers Opportunities for Everyone,” and the Deep South Unified Regional Project is “Building Membership.”

The District 5 Judges Council presented a design program. Participants incorporated both floral design and environmental conservation in fashion by creating hats utilizing recycled materials.

Each district submitted five entries for a total of 40 designs. BVGC President Gloria Roy was awarded second place.

National Garden Club award recipients were announced. BVGC received commendations for its Litter/Recycling and Pink Glove applications.

BVGC’s first meeting of the 2011-12 session will be Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bayou Vista Community Center. New members are welcome.
