“That Just Takes the Cake,” an annual fundraiser for the American Heart Association, raised almost $20,000 this year.

Held in July at the Morgan City Petroleum Club, this year’s event —the ninth in Morgan City — was a great success. Guests enjoyed a steak dinner, an outdoor raffle and who could forget the fabulous cakes! Guests closed out the night dancing with music by the Voodoo Bayou Band.

The committee thanks event sponsors Teche Regional Medical Center, Franklin Foundation Hospital, Bret Allain, Edward Jones, Frank’s Agency Inc.—Frank S. Guarisco & Associates Inc., Filter Solutions, Hudson Dry Docks, Modular Industries, Morgan City Bank & Trust, Morgan City Rentals, Nursing Care of Morgan City, Payroll & Business Solutions, Inc., Pediatric Clinic, Philomena Siracusa and Sister Catherine, Southern Heart Clinic and Dr. Dean Valdez, The Medicine Clinic and Drs. Natalie Dishman, Francis “Chuck” Metz and Carla Thurston; Shannon Hardware, Tiger Island Do It Best Hardware and Acadian Ambulance.

Funds raised from “That Just Takes the Cake” will support a local AHA Teaching Garden in a St. Mary Parish elementary school.
