Removal operations on the barge overturned in the Charenton Navigation Canal have been suspended until next week.

According to reports from the United States Coast Guard, the operation was suspended until a lift barge can arrive on scene to help the salvage operation.

That is expected to be Monday, the Coast Guard says.

Earlier attempts to right the barge by pulling it with cables and winches failed as the cables broke in several subsequent attempts.

The barge has been in the canal since late April 2010.
