A derrick lift barge was brought to the Charenton Navigation and Drainage Canal over the weekend to help right the barge overturned there since April of 2010. An early effort to use the lift mechanism to raise the top section out of the muck and water in the canal failed when winch cables at the opposite side began breaking again. At last report Monday, LAD Services LLC of Morgan City, the barge’s current owner, was eyeing a dredge to remove buildup of sediment against the side of the barge submerged in the canal, Parish President Paul Naquin said.
