A gray and red Mitsubishi Montero Sport left the roadway Monday afternoon and overturned in the wooded area at the foot of the westbound U.S. 90 bridge at Amelia. Members of the Amelia Volunteer Fire Department and other first responders helped the driver, Lavette Nunn, 41, of Morgan City, out of her vehicle through the back door. Nunn was not injured in the incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m., and but was cited with careless operation in the incident.
