Burt Cormier never thought he would see his “Sissy” again. When the adult female mixed terrier breed went missing nearly six weeks ago, Cormier lost hope of ever re-uniting with her.

Cormier’s parents Burton and Wilma Cormier of Mowata both died recently and Burt felt that he only had Sissy left in his family.

Bonnie Ardoin, a first cousin to Cormier, said, “His parents died recently and his sister Connie Diniz moved Burt to Eunice to be closer to the Eunice Developmental Center where he is a resident. He does live at his new home, located in a southwest neighborhood, with a round-the-clock caretaker.”

After finding out that Sissy was missing, Bonnie made several phone calls to veternarians, neighbors, and made radio advertisement spots looking for Sissy.

Nearly six weeks passed before Bonnie spotted Sissy. “My husband (D.D. Ardoin) and I live off of Dan Drive, three miles south of Eunice. My next- door neighbor Dana Ware had her dog outside. As the dog walked over to us, she looked awfully familiar. She spotted my husband first at our mailbox.”

The Ardoins took a double-take, thinking that the dog looked just like Sissy. Bonnie said, “We knew Sissy had an underbite and sure enough this dog did.”

Bonnie knew that her neighbor rescued dogs and after talking with her discovered she had taken in Sissy.

Little did Bonnie know that Sissy was right next door to her. “Dana took her to the vet and had all her updated shots and was trying to find a good home for her.”

Bonnie said when Sissy went missing she was wearing her dog collar, but when found by Ware her collar was missing.

Bonnie added, “Sissy had lost a lot of weight, probably more than half her body weight. I believe Sissy was trying to find her way back to Burt, traveling her way south back to Mowata, since he lived there most of his life.”

Bonnie reunited Sissy with Burt by driving Sissy to Eunice Developmental Center. She said, “When Burt saw Sissy he started crying with joy.”
