MARSHA MARY BROUSSARD, daughter of Harold and Edwina Broussard of Franklin, was awarded the degree of doctor of public health from Tulane University on May 13, 2011. She was one of three persons to earn the degree of doctor in community health services. Her dissertation topic was Psychosocial Mediators of Health Behaviors among Elementary School Personnel in Jefferson Parish. The primary research questions were whether job stress and job-related depressive symptomatology were associated with dietary behaviors and physical activity; and if social support and self-efficacy mediated those associations. Marsha graduated from Franklin High School in 1974. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and her masters of public health from the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Broussard presently works at the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI), a Louisiana agency that addresses public health issues, administers public health programs, and acts as a conduit for funding from national foundations. Dr. Broussard has generated over $25 million over the last five years in grants from the Kellogg Foundation, General Electric Foundation, and the Office of Adolescent Health, Health Resources Services Administration. These grants address school based health services, fund school wellness programs, and address teen pregnancy prevention. She resides in New Orleans with her husband David Williams.
