BALDWIN — On a wet field, the West St. Mary Wolfpack tallied five touchdowns to earn a 34-0 win over the Franklin Hornets in the annual Fire on the Bayou contest here Friday at the Wolfpack Stadium.

West St. Mary’s Glenn Marsh scored a pair touchdowns while Tre’vell Dixon, Jontrey Tillman and Devone Robertson all hit paydirt to help propel the Wolfpack.

While Tropical Storm Lee was churning in the Gulf, the Wolfpack wasted no time running through several would be tacklers on the way to the endzone.

Marsh’s first touchdown came as he darted 23 yards untouched for the score. On the game’s initial score, Marsh took the handoff from quarterback Tre’vell Dixon, darted right before bolting unmolested down the right sideline for the 23-yard touchdown with 9:27 showing on the clock. Jovan Anderson booted the extra point, lifting the Wolfpack outfront by a 7-0 advantage.

A short time later, Marsh hit paydirt from 10 yards out for his second touchdown on the night, giving WSM a 14-0 advantage.

West St. Mary linebacker Robert Martin sacked Franklin quarterback Micheal Polidore, setting up the offense deep in FSHS territory following a short punt. Martin’s third-down stop of Polidore led up to a short punt during the windy, rain storm, giving WSM a first-and-goal at the Hornets’ seven. One play later, West St. Mary quarterback Dixon scurried into the endzone on his way for a 7-yard TD. WSM holder Jontrey Tillman raced into the endzone, converting the two-point conversion as the Wolfpack moved to a 22-0 lead with 39.7 second remaining in the second period.

Midway through the third quarter, during a driving rain storm, West St. Mary’s Dixon again made his presence known. The junior quarterback broke free on a 97-yard touchdown run with under six minutes left in the third quarter. Dixon pilfered a pass from his defensive back position, broke free through a gaping hole on a 97 yard touchdown down the left sideline.

In the fourth quarter, West St. Mary’s Devone Robertson scored on a 3-yard touchdown, handing the Wolfpack the 34-0 victory over Franklin.

On the night, West St. Mary rushed for 199 yards while the Hornets managed 69 yards.

West St. Mary’s Tillman led the way with 125 yards on five carries and one TD. Dixon carried 8 times for 50 yards and one score while Marsh picked up 37 yards on six attempts and two touchdowns.

Zachary Stewart led the Hornets in rushing on 11 totes for 50 yards with Brian Robertson carrying five times for 25 yards.

West St. Mary quarterback Tre’vell Dixon attempted four passes, connecting on one while Micheal Poledore tossed four passes, connecting on a 2-yard completion to Derrick Kelly.

West St. Mary (1-0) will travel to play Northwest next week while the Franklin Hornets (0-1) will play host to Opelousas next Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium.
