Teen electrocuted shortly after ignoring advice to stop flying kite

MANY – A teenager who ignored advice to stop flying a kite during a thunderstorm was electrocuted a few minutes later.

Authorities said Tyler Burkett, 17, of Many died at Sabine Medical Center. He was a student at Many High.

Burkett and a friend were trying to fly the kite about 5 p.m. Saturday A plastic-coated wire was tied to the kite and a piece of steel rebar was used as a handle.

The friend advised Burkett to stop when the storm approached, but he continued and was electrocuted shortly afteward when the kite tangled in power lines.
