Berwick got into the win column with a 3-0 (25-9, 25- 6, 25-8) win over upstart Centerville Tuesday at BHS.

Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Elle Arcement with three kills; Elizabeth Hover with two kills, an ace and five digs; Maddie Gray with two kills; Abigail Ohlin had 11 aces, a kill and a dig; Megan Fegenbush added eight aces and Morgan Mitchell had eight assists, three aces and a dig.

“The team was very relaxed today,” BHS coach Charlotte Menard said. “We had a few issues to work through today. We’ve undergone some major line up changes and are still tweaking our rotation.”

Berwick (1-1) started the season on the road with a (3-0, 8-25, 15-25 and 15-25) loss to H.L. Bourgeois. The Lady Panthers also withdrew from the Woodlawn tournament this past weekend due to weather conditions.

But they got things going against Centerville (0-2), who is fielding a varsity volleyball team for the first time this season.

“With this as Centerville’s first year, it was great to have them on our schedule and support another St. Mary Parish athletic program,” Menard said.

The Lady Panthers return to the floor Thursday in Houma against HLB (2-1) again.

“We are also still growing as a team,” Menard added. “Morgan Mitchell is doing a great job running our offense, she has a selection of hitters to go to with our back row attacking as much as our front row. It’s such a good feeling to look out at a group of young ladies that have worked hard and grown so much since this time last year.”

Berwick will head to the HLB tournament on Thursday and Centerville will hit the road to face Capital High on Monday.
