Work is continuing on the 1,600 square-foot Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau’s Welcome and Interpretive Center in Morgan City. The facility, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at U.S. 90, will feature glass walls to display the wetlands between it and Lake Palourde. Mitch Melancon, project manager for Aegis Construction in LaPlace, the project’s contractor, said that workers have just finished the structural steel portion of the facility and will turn their attention to roof work in the next two or three weeks. The $3.89 million project is being complete under the auspice of Washer Hill Lipscomb Cabanis Architects in Baton Rouge. The project, funded with capital outlay, local funds and Atchafalaya Basin program monies, is scheduled for completion around early January.
