The Morgan City volleyball team beat Delcambre on Tuesday 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-22).
The Lady Tigers were led by Brittney Durham with 30 digs and two aces; Reina Fernandez had 20 digs, two aces and a block assist; Taylor Prince had three assists and four aces; Katelyn Adams had four kills, an ace, an assist, a dig and a block assist; Kailyn Turner had four blocks, a kill, a dig and a block assist; Savannah Loupe had seven digs and four aces; Genesis Estebal had three assists, one block and two digs; Jaiveianna Jones had three kills, a block and a block assist; and Morgan Bailey had four digs.
The MCHS junior varsity also won 2-1 (25-13, 23-25 15-12) with Prince leading the way with seven aces, four assists and two digs; and Savannah Loupe had four aces and two digs.
Morgan City’s freshmen lost 2-1 (25-14, 23-25, 10-15) with Brandi Ingram leading the team with nine aces and two digs, while Celestina Williams had five assists, three kills, four aces and a dig.
Morgan City will host the Lady Tiger Classic starting today at 3 p.m. with the last game set for 7 p.m. The tournament continues on Saturday with the first games set for 8 a.m. and the tournament semifinals will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the championship game at 4:30 p.m.
MCHS first game of the tournament is at 4 p.m. today against Houma Christian.
Lady Panthers beat Centerville
The Berwick volleyball team had two starters out of the lineup for Wednesdays road trip to Centerville but the young Lady Panthers that stepped in did well in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-5, 25-9) win.
Morgan Mitchell led the team with 10 assists; Abby Bergeron had nine aces and two digs; Megan Fegenbush had eight aces, two kills and a dig; Alexis Kates had eight aces; Maddie Gray had three kills and an assist; Elle Arcemont had three kills; and Diana Guarisco had two kills and a dig.
“The girls played well,” BHS coach Charlotte Menard said. “They were able to capitalize on their serving and our younger players stepped up and contributed to the win.”
The Lady Panthers will hit the court today at 3 p.m. to face West St. Mary in the Morgan City tournament.
