Thursday,, Louisiana State Police Region 2 detectives assigned to the Lafayette Field Office arrested former Turkey Creek police chief Robert Moreau man for charges relating to theft.

Moreau, 43, resigned earlier this week after pleading guilty to a theft charge in Ville Platte.

In September of this year, detectives received information about a theft that occurred at a retail store in Lafayette Parish. The complaint alleged that Moreau was removing store items from the shelves then leaving with them without permission and without paying for them.

Based on the complaint, detectives began their investigation. During the course of investigation detectives gathered evidence indicating that Moreau, who at the time of the offense was employed as the chief of police in Turkey Creek, was wearing his uniform when the offense took place. The evidence also indicated that Moreau did in fact leave the store without paying for the items and without permission.

With the evidence they obtained, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Moreau for felony theft. Today, detectives arrested Moreau in Evangeline Parish and transported him to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where he was booked for the warrant. This case remains under investigation and additional charges are anticipated.
