Morgan City’s volleyball team improved its district record to 3-1 with a win over South Lafourche Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers won 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 26-24) but it wasn’t easy.

Brittney Durham had a team-high 17 digs and three aces; Brooke Singleton had eight assists, eight digs, seven kills and six aces; Savannah Loupe had seven digs and an ace; Reina Fernandez had nine digs, two kills and two aces; Katelyn Adams had 14 assists, six kills and six digs; Jaiveianna Jones had a kill; Kailyn Turner had five kills and three digs; and Genesis Esteban had two kills and two digs.

The Lady Tigers junior varsity kept it close but fell short 2-0 (19-25, 17-25).

Loupe and Marilynn Bailey had 10 digs each with Loupe adding two aces and Bailey chipping in two kills; Layne Reynaud had two aces and two assists; Taylor Prince had six assists and an ace; Tyler Hebert had two aces and two digs; Kloe’ Liner had three kills and a dig; Brittney Ingram had two digs and a kill; Jones had a kill; Chandler Pasqua had four digs; Eliannys Cabrera had three digs; and Elizabeth Esteban had two digs.

MCHS’ freshmen also had a closely contested match but lost 2-1 (21-25, 25-20, 8-15).

Hebert led the team with 12 digs, six kills and four aces; Elizabeth Businelle had 11 assists, five digs, three kills and an ace; Celestine Williams had four kills, three digs and an ace; Ingram had five digs, two aces, two assists and two kills; Madison Pennison had three aces and three digs; Kellee Bandemer had a dig; and LeeAnne Price had seven digs.

Lady Eagles win district opener

Central Catholic’s volleyball team started district play with a 3-0 win over West St. John (25-7, 25-9, 25-14).

Caroline Byrne led the team with 24 assists, five aces, a kill and a dig; Brienna Hill had seven kills, a dig and a block; Gee Garrett had six kills, four aces and a dig; Amanda Barron had five digs and two aces; Celine Flores had four kills, two digs and an ace; Meo Knight had eight digs, seven kills and three aces; Maria Templet had nine digs and nine aces; Olivia Crawford had three digs and three aces; and Abbie Bergeron had two digs and a kill.

The Lady Eagles kept busy over the weekend with a pair of three-game sweeps over Thibodaux and Morgan City.

Byrne had 30 assists and two digs against Thibodaux; Hill had 11 kills and four blocks; Barron had 10 digs, six aces and four kills; Flores had 13 digs, nine kills and an ace; and Crawford had 10 digs.

Against Morgan City, Barron filled up the stat sheet with eight digs, three kills, two assists, an ace and a block; Hill had seven kills and five blocks; Garrett had 10 kills; and Bergeron had six digs.

The Lady Eagles continue district play at 4 p.m. today against Centerville at the Matchbox.
