Hanson Memorial Tigers defeat AES in District 8-A

LAFAYETTE _ Chase Businelle and Broc Buckner scored touchdowns, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 48-33 victory over the Ascension Episcopal School Blue Gators here Friday in District 8-A action.

Businelle scored on a 9-yard reception from Drake Rodriguez before Kole Fluke converted the two-point conversion, giving HMS an 8-0 lead with 9:15 showing on the clock in the initial period.

Nearly eight minutes later, Businelle scored on a 45-yard pass reception as the Tigers built a 14-0 at the 1:55 mark of the first quarter.

Broc Buckner hauled in another Rodriguez scoring strike on a 23-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter, sending HMS outfront by a 20-0 advantage.

Joey Greco scored the Blue Gators first touchdown on a three-yard run before Myles Lee’s kick as AES trailed HMS by a 20-7 margin with 6:40 showing on the clock.

Businelle extended the Tigers lead to 26-7 on an 81-yard return on the ensuing kickoff at the 6:16 mark of the second quarter.

Greco added his second score on a one-yard, enabling AES to crawl back within a 26-13 margin.

Hanson’s Beau Ancona got in on the scoring with a 12-yard run while Fluke tacked on the two-point conversion, sending the Tigers outfront by a 34-13 score.

AES’ Greco scored again before Hanson’s Fluke ran over from 40 yards out as the Tigers rolled to a 40-27 score.

Ancona closed out the Tigers’ scoring on a 12-yard scamper and Collin Broussard scored on the two-point conversion, leading Hanson Memorial to the 48-33 victory.

Hanson (6-2, 1-1) will play host to the Central Catholic Eagles Friday at McCloskey Field at 7 p.m.

Just to clarify.....The 81 Yard Kick off return touchdown was made by Drake Businelle #8. Innocent mistake, I'm sure, but please remember these articles are permanent reminders of events in these young men's lives. When credit for an awesome play is given to the wrong player the article becomes meaningless for the player who actually made the play, unless a retraction is done!
