St. Mary Council on Aging Executive Director Beverly Domangeaux was one of a long list of speakers at the Parent/ Grandparent Summit held Wednesday as part of the ongoing St. Mary Parish Red Ribbon Week festivities. Her advice to those in attendance was to teach their family histories to their children in an effort to strengthen the community as well as to teach children to respect their elders. Others on the list of speakers at the Patterson Area Civic Center were Jenni Ducote, 4-H family extension agent, discussing family nutrition; Gwen Thomas, teacher and facilitator of technology, on cyberbullying; Doris Hawkins, childcare legal concerns; Jane Chassot, improving family relationships; Lt. Scott Anslem of the St. Mary Sheriff's Department, current drug trends; Dr. Juan Escarfuller, cardiologist, on energy drinks and products; and Lydia Duval, R.N., discussing disaster preparedness.
