JONESVILLE – Investigation continues in the case of a man killed while hunting on Catahoula Wildlife Refuge.

State police say Rod Gordo, 63, of Jonesville was moving in brush shortly before 6 a.m. Monday when he was shot and killed by Boatner K. Smith, 52, also of Jonesville.

Smith heard something move in the brush and saw vegetation move and shot at it. It was not a deer or a hog, but was Gordo, who died instantly, police said.

State Police investigated because Smith is a non-commissioned officer at Catahoula Correctional Center.
