BOSSIER CITY -- A man previously diagnosed with mental disorders is accused for stabbing his mother to death.

Christopher Holder had been committed for psychiatric evaluation twice this year.

Holder, 20, is charged with murdering his mother, Dr. Donna Holder, an j anesthesiologist.

Donna Holder, 55, was stabbed repeatedly Friday night at her home in Bossier’s Stonebridge subdivision.

Police said Christopher Holder called 911 Friday night and said his mother had been attacked by a man who broke into their home. Donna Holder was dead of approximately a dozen stab wounds when police officers arrived, authorities said. Christopher Holder was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The son had been committed twice this year for psychiatric evaluation. Bossier Coroner Dr. John Chandler said Holder was committed in January after an altercation with his father. Police said he was committed again in April after a non-violent incident at home. Donna Holder was there at the time, police said.

Christopher Holder lived at the house with his mother and an aunt, a family friend said. The aunt was out of town on Friday.

Donna Holder was vice chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. She joined the medical school faculty in 1991 and her areas of interest were pain management and pediatric anesthesia, the medical center said.

Holder was a graduate of Tulane University’s medical school.

In a request for a protective order against her husband in 2007, Ms. Holder said her son was bipolar. Court records indicate he had been treated for unstable moods, hallucinations, paranoia and anxiety.
