A Youth Empowerment Summit was held Friday and Saturday at the West St. Mary Civic Center. The St. Mary District 1 Leadership Team, organized by parish Councilman Craig A. Mathews, pictured above, hosted the summit. The purpose of the summit was to stimulate the minds and stir a spiritual awakening in St. Mary Parish youth ages 13-19, and to capture their attention about issues that are adversely affecting them. The program is also designed to promote ongoing participation of area youth in the St. Mary District 1 YET Initiative (Youth Empowerment Training). The District 1 Leadership Team is comprised of local pastors as well as business, political and community leaders throughout the parish.
