GROSS TETE – An accident which spilled thousands of cucumbers on the highway snarled traffic for 30 miles on Interstate 10 Sunday.

On the heaviest traffic day of the year, travelers were delayed after an 18-wheeler hauling the vegetable was in accident, spilling its cargo on the roadway.

The accident happened about 10 a.m and it was about 7 p.m. before all lanes on the interstate were re-opened.

On the eastbound lanes, the delays stretched for miles onto the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge toward Lafayette.

The westbound delays stretched past the I-10/I-12 split in Baton Rouge.

There were moderate injuries reported in the crash, but no serious ones.
