COVINGTON - Officials say a black panther, not officially seen in Louisiana in decades, has been spotted here.

Workers from an office building on I-12 near Highway 190 in Covington said they saw a black panther in the area.

A photograph of the animal was sent to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies are asking residents in the area to be aware of the animal’s possible existence and to call the Sheriff’s Office if it is seen in close proximity to people, especially small children.
