Eagles take second at tourney

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team played twice Saturday, winning both games to finish second in the Panther Invitational in Berwick with a 2-1 record.

The tournament followed a round robin format, so no championship game was played.

The Eagles (2-1) started off with an 83-37 win over Berwick (0-7) at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Lloyd Grogan led the Eagles with 17 points, Brent Green added 12, and Jovon Johnson had 10.

The Eagles didn’t get much of a break with the second game of the day against Jeanerette tipping off at 1 p.m.

The quick turnaround didn’t seem to bother the Eagles with Grogan pouring in 34 points and Dontrell Brown adding 18 in the 83-45 win.

Central Catholic will host Berwick on Tuesday at the Matchbox.

Panthers come close against Grand Isle

The Berwick boys’ basketball team nearly picked up its first win of the season Saturday in the final game of the Panther Invitational, but it wasn’t meant to be with Grand Isle pulling out a 50-38 win.

Berwick suited up for the first game of the day on Saturday against CCHS, falling short, 83-37.
