A Morgan City man has been charged with suspected murder in connection with the body found near Centerville last month.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said Darby Mack Frickey, 38, of 109 Carolyn Road, Morgan City, was arrested at the sheriff’s department branch office in Morgan City Monday at 8:06 p.m.

He is accused of killing Mark Berthelot, 38, who disappeared in early October and was reported missing Nov. 10.

The body was found in a cane field by a farm worker on La. 317 Nov. 18.

Hebert said investigators developed Darby as a suspect through interviews, and said Darby admitted to “causing injuries to (Berthelot) resulting in his death.”

Darby was held without bond.

Assisting in the investigation were the Morgan City and Franklin police departments.

No further details were available this morning as the investigation continues.
