FRANKLIN, La. (AP) — St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert says the body of a missing hunter has been found in the Atchafalaya Basin.

Fifty-eight-year-old Lynn Landry of Jeanerette was last seen leaving his hunting camp northwest of Franklin on Dec. 22. He was reported missing on Dec. 24, after his family failed to reach him by phone.

Hebert says a volunteer found the body about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, floating near Charenton Beach, and sheriff’s deputies recovered it. Volunteers and family members had joined officers from a half-dozen local and state agencies in the search.

Hebert says the parish coroner’s office will investigate.
