LDWF biologist manager Ricky Moses told the Rapides Parish Police Jury that using the carp will be in addition to a herbicide treatment that will start later in the year.
He cautioned jurors and the public that it will be some time before the hydrilla is curtailed.
“It’s going to be several years before you see a real benefit,” Moses said.
Hydrilla is good for sport fishery populations but bad for aquatic recreation.
LDWF hopes to reduce the hydrilla level by about one-third.
