NEW IBERIA - Services will be Monday for long-time physician Dr. Vernon Voorhies. He died Jan. 5 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a general practitioner in New Iberia for more than 40 years.
Survivors include two sons and five daughters.
Long-time Tax Board chairwoman
ALEXANDRIA – Services were Sunday for former chairman of the La. State Board of Tax Appeals Evelyn Gianfala Gravel. She died Jan. 5 at age 89.
She serviced as president of Gianfala & Son Oil Field Construction. She was Board of Tax Appeals chairwoman for over 20 years.
Survivors include three step-sons and five step-daughters.
Arrangements were by John Kramer & Son.
Workforce developer
WOODWORTH – Services for Workforce Development expert Janice Davis Haworth were Sunday. She was 60.
She was retired executive director of the Office and Workforce Development for Rapides Parish and former director of federal programs, the first woman to hold that post. She was once named outstanding JTPA Professional by the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
Survivors include her husband Michael and two sons.
Arrangements were by Hixson Bros.
Political columnist
NEW ORLEANS – Services are pending for long-time Times Picayune columnist Jack Wardlaw. He died Jan. 4 at age 74.
Before covering politics and state government for The T-P beginning in 1980, he reported for The States-Item starting in 1971. Prior to that, he was a copy editor and assistant city editor.
Survivors include his wife Mary and four children.
