Tony Guerrero, 35, of New Iberia was killed in the incident, which occurred on the highway at Bourque Road, Louisiana State Police Troop I said.
According to the LSP crash report, Tina Taylor, 43, of Church Point was eastbound on Bourque Road approaching U.S. 167 in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt shortly before 3:45 p.m. when she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered U.S. 167 in the path of Guerrero’s 2005 Honda motorcycle.
Guerrero attempted to avoid a collision but fell from the motorcycle before it struck the vehicle. However, Taylor’s vehicle subsequently struck Guerrero in the median, Troop I Spokesman Trooper Stephen Hammons said.
Hammons said Guerrero, who was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained from Guerrero and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Hammons said.
Taylor, who sustained only minor injuries in the crash, was found impaired by alcohol, and a breath test indicated her blood alcohol level was .109 grams-percent, the spokesman said.
She was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of vehicular homicide, disregarding a stop sign and open container, and subsequently released on a $10,000 bond.
