Mrs. Jessie Mary Washington Brent, 91, a resident of Baldwin and native of New Roads, Mississippi, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at 11:59 a.m., at her residence following a short illness.
She is survived by five sons, Norris, Clyde, Calvin and Melvin Brent of Baldwin and Forest Brent of Port Arthur, Texas; two daughters, Merlene Payton of Jeanerette and Leona Brent of Baldwin; two sisters, Gustavia Kelly of Baldwin and Laura Washington of Gibson; 31 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; and a host of great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Brent was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, two sons, one grandchild, two great grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, Jan. 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Baldwin.
Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. Willie Jackson Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Greater New Hope Cemetery.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
