ALEXANDRIA – A 10--year-old shot what many hunters would consider the deer of a lifetime on family property in Concordia Parish adjacent to Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge.

Jack Dekeyzer was in a stand on that had not been hunted for two years on Jan. 2 when the 18-point trophy walked into a food plot about 4:30 p.m.

The young nimrod had heard the deer in the woods around him for more than a half hour before it stepped into the plot.

A round from Jack’s .243 Savage single-shot did the trick.

A few minutes later, Jack called his father Peter, in the next stand away, to ask for help in recovering the buck.

The non-typical rack scored 189 3/4 Boone & Crockett points. The deer weighed 230 pounds
