As one of its National Programs of Service initiated by the Supreme Basileus Carolyn House Stewart, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority became part of a national strategic alliance of the American Heart Association, endeavoring to learn more about women and heart disease.

For the second year, the sorority is sponsoring “Pink Goes Red,” observed this year on Feb. 3.

The local AKA affiliate, Iota Eta Omega Chapter, issues a challenge to the local community and surrounding areas to wear red on what is labeled “National Wear Red Day.”

“Everyone can get involved on this day or any day throughout the year,” Iota Eta Omega officials said.

The Supreme Basileus stated that “heart disease is the No.1 killer of women, taking the life of one in three women each year.”

Everyone from organizations and churches to schools and workplaces can participate by wearing red on Feb. 3.
