The City of Patterson recently received a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors that it will dedicate toward several goals, including creating a farmer’s market.

The money, awarded for the city’s efforts to improve the health of its residents, was awarded during the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ winter meeting held this week in Washington, D.C.

In addition to the farmer’s market, the money will be used to improve play spaces and recreational facilities and for public service announcements that support healthy food choices and breast-feeding.

The grant program, in partnership with the American Beverage Association, funds projects that target childhood obesity prevention.

Patterson was awarded second place in the grant program in the small city category.
