IN OBSERVANCE of Arbor Day, Bayou Vista Garden Club members planted two Oriental Magnolias on Southeast Boulevard. The Magnolia soulangeana, commonly known as the saucer or tulip magnolia, blooms on a bare tree in early spring with the deciduous leaves expanding shortly thereafter, lasting through summer until autumn. As part of BVGC’s civic development, the flowerbeds were weeded and the trees were pruned and mulched along Southeast Boulevard. Ten Nandina Domestica shrubs will also be planted at the Bayou Vista Community Center.
