Baptist camps manager

RUSTON – Services will be Feb. 11 for retired Southern Baptist camp manager Joe Backus. He died Feb. 1 at age 82.

He helped organize Acadian Baptist Center in Eunice and was its manager for nine years. He also managed two other Baptist camps. He was co-owner of a hardware store and of Quality Photo/Bass Pro Outlet Shop.

Survivors include his wife Beth and two children.

Award-winning teacher

ALEXANDRIA – Services for long-time educator and former National Yearbook Sponsor of the Year Mary Foil will be Saturday. She died Jan. 29 at age 82.

She was a teacher, first in Bogalusa and then at Bolton High, Alexandria. She sponsored publication of 32 consecutive editions of the Bruin, the school’s yearbook.

Survivors include a son, David L. Foil, Jr.

Arrangements are by Hixson Bros.

Hall of Fame member

SHREVEPORT – Services for former prep basketball star Alice Hood Kitchings will be Saturday. She died Feb. 1 at age 76.

She was employed by the Caddo Parish School Board for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Louisiana High School Coaches Hall of Fame as a result of scoring more than 8,000 points in her high school career at Bienville.

Survivors include her husband Bennett, a son and a daughter.
